This composition was commissioned by Bradley Meyer for drumset and video. In collecting the videos for the piece, a theme of nature began to emerge. In addition to pursuing this theme, an additional goal was to feature the drums with a strong groove.
To support that theme of nature and natural events, nine video segments are dispersed throughout. The ordering and duration of each video is based on magic squares. The formal structure is in three parts. The first and third sections form a collage of diverse ideas. Each video concentrates on nature and has its own musical texture. The second section is a tenth educational video explaining the formation of boundary layers. Against this video, the drum set settles into a beat as it mimics the voice.
